Red blood cells transport oxygen from the lungs to all tissues in the body. At the same time, B12 protects the myelin sheath around nerve fibers, which ensures fast and reliable signal transmission between the brain and the body.

People who completely avoid these products, such as strict vegans, quickly develop a deficiency without additional measures.

A B12 blood test provides insight into how much cobalamin is circulating in your bloodstream. Doctors use this test when symptoms such as persistent fatigue, concentration problems, or tingling in the hands and feet suggest a possible vitamin deficiency. B12 is also part of standard diagnostics for diagnosed anemia.

What do abnormal values ​​mean?

Low B12 levels

Symptoms that may occur include fatigue, dizziness, headache, palpitations, and tinnitus.

The same applies to people who use antacids long-term, as this medication reduces the acid production necessary for proper B12 absorption.

Regular monitoring is also recommended for people with chronic bowel diseases, a history of stomach surgery, or excessive alcohol consumption. A simple blood test provides quick clarity and enables targeted supplementation or further diagnostics.
